Trade Tensions: EU demands permanent exemption from US steel tariffs
[]
The United States has given the European Union a 40-day exemption from the new tariffs on steel and aluminum. The EU says the exemption must be made permanent.
Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel argued the temporary suspension was like Washington putting a gun to the EU's head. European Union leaders say they reserve the right to respond with counter-measures. That could include EU tariffs on US orange juice, tobacco, bourbon and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
