Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has returned to Pakistan for the first time since being shot by Taliban militants. She gave an emotional speech at the prime minister's office, saying it had been her dream to return without any fear. Danial Khan has more details.
DANIAL KHAN ISLAMABAD "Malala Yousafzai has returned to Pakistan after more than five years after she survived an alleged attack by the Taliban in her hometown of Swat in 2012. In an emotional speech at Prime Minister House in Islamabad, she said that she had dreamed of returning to Pakistan all these years. She has been living in the United Kingdom since she left Pakistan and is in Pakistan for 4 days, with her father. During her speech, she said it was the happiest day of her life because she had returned to her country and was among her own people. She also said that she grew up in Swat as the valley was hit by terrorism and extremism from 2007 till 2009. Malala also said that there is a great need to invest in children education, and that her fund has invested more than $6 million on girls' education in Pakistan. Prime Minister Shahid Khan Abbasi said that Malala is the most famous citizen of Pakistan and the entire world has given her honour and respect. He also mentioned that following the alleged attack on her, Pakistan stepped up the fight against terrorism and said thousands of civilians and security forces personnel have died fighting that war. The 20-year-old was also assured provision of security if she wanted to visit anywhere in Pakistan, during her stay. Danial Khan, CGTN, Islamabad."
