All 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions of Chinese mainland have released their GDP figures in 2017, with southwestern China playing a leading role.
The top 10 of the GDP list for 2017 remained the same as in 2016, led by southern China’s Guangdong Province with about 9 trillion yuan (1.41 trillion US dollars) GDP, official data showed.
Chongqing, a municipality in southwestern China, made a total GDP of more than 1,950 billion yuan, surpassing northern China’s municipality Tianjin for the first time.
Also in southwestern China, Guizhou Province and Tibet Autonomous Region saw their GDP growth last year rank in the top 2 with 10.2 percent and 10 percent respectively.
Compared with 2016, three provinces in western and central China, Sichuan, Hunan and Shaanxi took spots in the top 10 for GDP growth in 2017.
Northeastern China’s Liaoning Province reported 4.2 percent economic growth last year, best performance since 2015, when the province stopped inflating data.
Local officials of Liaoning admitted in 2015 that they faked economic data over the past few years when the real figures were much lower.
After the confession, Liaoning’s GDP number dropped 2.5 percent year-on-year in 2016, being the only province in China having a GDP decrease in that year.
Tang Yijun, Liaoning’s acting governor, said at a conference on Saturday that the local economy has showed a stable and positive development trend from 2017.
