9 killed as suspected Abu Sayyaf members attack village in Philippines

At least nine people were killed and 10 others injured after suspected Abu Sayyaf group members attacked a village in southern Philippines' Maluso, Basilan, early Monday.

Local authorities said some 30 to 50 armed men from the militant group shot civilians and torched houses in Barangay Tubigan at around 5:30 a.m. on Monday.

A rescue operation is still underway.
