What are images? They are the love story of light and shadow. I’ve have always followed the path of light and shadow.

It’s to connect the characters with the story through light and shadow so the audience can feel the characters’ inner changes. The moment I put my eye on the viewfinder, I forget everything else completely.

My name is Huang Xiaodong. I’m a cameraman. In 2017, I’ve done “What Is China?” I’ve done “The Big Picture” and CGTN Francais’ “The People Above the Clouds."

What's so hard for me to face is... let me say, my daughter. In the 365 days of a year, I may have only 30 to see her. I really want to see her every day, but I can’t, because of my love for images.
The core of camerawork is the idea; that’s the understanding of art. This kind of inspiration depends on the cameraman’s accumulated experience and knowledge. Cameramen do not simply carry machines and earn money by selling labor. We are artistic creators.

Another concept behind CGTN is to show a different Chinese culture. We need to use the latest techniques and skills to present the most beautiful side of China to the outside world.
CGTN, happy birthday!
