Chinese tennis player Duan Yingying was defeated by last year’s French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko in the Australian Open in Melbourne on Wednesday.
Ostapenko dropped her serve twice before winning a see-saw opening set 6-3. But the Chinese world No.100 bounced back to take the second by the same scoreline.

The final act followed a similar pattern with the pair locked on serve until 4-4 when Ostapenko edged in front.
French Open champion Ostapenko was pushed all the way by Duan before grinding out a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win in the second round of the Australian Open.
The big-hitting Latvian let out a scream of joy on match point after a battling victory in one hour and 44 minutes.

She next faces Mona Barthel of Germany or Estonia's Anett Kontaveit for a place in the last 16 for first time to reach round forth in Melbourne in her career.
This is the first time no players from Chinese mainland have reached the women's singles third round since 2006. There were seven Chinese players competing in Melbourne, only Yan Zi and Yuan Meng won the first round match but both were knocked out in the second.

In 2010, both Li Na and Zheng Jie got into semi-finals, the first time two Chinese players reached any Grand Slam singles semi-finals at the same time.
Li Na also played in final in 2011 and 2013, finally managing to take the trophy in 2014. While Zhang Shuai, who won her first Grand Slam singles match at the 2016 Australian Open, is one of only four Chinese players that have made the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament.
