We focus on golf now -- and every week, competitors take to the course hoping to win. But there is one exception -- the Par 3 competition at the Masters. You see, no one has ever won the event, and gone on to win the actual tournament later in the week. This year's unlucky winner was Tom Watson, who at 68 becomes the oldest to triumph in the competition, but with two Masters wins under his belt, I think he will be happy with his performance.
There is Watson in pink on the left, with greats Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus, 35 majors between that trio. Watson definitely turning back the clock, chipping in for birdie on the fourth hole -- one of six tweets for him on the day.
Tony Finau, playing in his first Masters this week, and everything looks fine, acing the 7th hole, which prompts a wild celebration, of him running to the cup, only he turns his ankle badly -- maybe even dislocating it. His tournament suddenly in jeopardy.
Off to the ninth hole, and 15-year-old Gary Nicklaus, is caddying for his grandpa -- Jack, when he takes a cut. And his tee shot lands on the green, and gets a great rolling, angling towards the hole, and slowly, slowly, but eventually it goes in. More celebrations, no injuries -- just hugs all around from the legendary grouping.
In the end it's Watson finishing 6-under on the nine holes, and claiming the title no one wants to win.
