The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been actively involved in humanitarian work across Iraq since the 1980s.
In 2017, the ICRC in Iraq provided food, clean water and essential relief items to over 9,500,000 people across the country.
In an interview with CGTN, Katharina Ritz, ICRC's head of delegation in Iraq, explained the organization's humanitarian work in the war-torn country, and how they are helping to tackle the pressing issues facing Iraq's post-conflict recovery.
Every cycle of the conflict has obvious effects on Iraq, Ritz said. Therefore, the delegation increased the activities of assisting people directly with  food and relief items. They have also established surgical teams to treat the wounded.
Commenting on Iraq’s reconstruction, Ritz said they have been actively involved in tackling humanitarian issues, engaging the detainees, and supporting internally displaced people. Ritz also highlighted a sustainable approach to helping individuals gain resilience and improve their livelihood.
