Pink dolphin therapy helps people with disability
[]
A new form of therapy for mentally and physically disabled individuals is gaining popularity in Brazil, which involves swimming with the Amazon pink dolphins, also known as the "botos."
Physiotherapist Igor Simoes is behind the therapy, and claims that the mere companionship of the rare dolphins help build self-confidence and make the patients less stressful.
He also believes that the dolphins emit sound waves that have healing effects on patients.
These pink mammals are also attracting tourists although they are not allowed as much interaction as that of the therapy group.
Although there is no scientific evidence yet backing up the therapeutic claims of the botos, the therapy will continue as long as there are people seeking interaction with these endangered species.
