Zhuang Lin, 39, from Zhoushan city in southeast China’s Zhejiang Province, stays at the hospital every day from 7 a.m. until midnight to look after his father who suffered a brain hemorrhage.
A few months ago, Zhuang was the marketing director of a real estate company making 670,000 yuan (about 150,700 US dollars) per year. However, he quit his job to spend more time with his ailing father.

“Our family exists because of my father. If I have no money, I can earn it again, but my father has only one life,” Zhuang told the Paper. He was busy working, only go back home once a month but, “My father told me that happiness is getting together to talk and to eat with family. I'm currently experiencing the meaning of his words.”
On Sept. 30, 2016, Zhuang led his marketing team to complete 200 million yuan (32 million US dollars) in sales in four hours. While preparing to celebrate with his colleagues, he received a phone call from his mother who told him about his father's illness.
"My father was in the Air Force when he was young, so he was always healthy. We made a promise to go to Tibet this year, but I did not expect he would suffer from a sudden cerebral hemorrhage followed by a deep coma. I feel so bad," Zhuang said, adding that his father had been in the intensive care unit (ICU) for 43 days. His father’s condition was temporarily stable, but the doctor told Zhuang that the best result his father could have was a vegetative state.

Zhuang recalled many of his father's stories. “No matter what difficulties I have, I hope my father can wake up, so I decided to quit my job and accompany my father until he wakes up.” His wife also supports his decision. “She told me that she can go to work until my father is stable.”
"Zhuang was responsible for the company's marketing. The annual salary is 670,000 yuan (105,786 dollars)," Zhuang’s former colleague Lu Zhenhuan told the Paper. Zhuang quit the job to take care of his father and the head of his company understood the importance of his actions.
Zhuang’s father was later transferred from the ICU to the recovery department, where he is taken care of every day by his son. Although it’s difficult to look after everything, Zhuang is satisfied with his decision. “If I do more, it will give me more hope. I hope my father can wake up,” Zhuang said.
