It's a part of China known for giant pandas, ancient culture, and rapid growth. But challenges remain for Sichuan Province especially when it comes to poverty. Leaders discussed their goals on Monday. And CGTN's Hou Na was there and has more.
From rural development to poverty alleviation to technology innovation. Leading officials from China's southwestern Sichuan Province set forth the region's development path. Sichuan Governor Yin Li, when answered questions about rural revitalization, explained what's been done and admits challenges remain.
YIN LI SICHUAN GOVERNOR "Though we have achieved substantial outcomes in revitalizing the countryside, we have to admit the rural development in Sichuan is still very unbalanced. There are daunting tasks ahead in achieving the goals of lifting people out of poverty by next year."
Ancient culture, the giant panda and majestic scenery have become three iconic symbols of Sichuan Province.
Data shows that Sichuan's economy grew at an average annual rate of just over eight percent from 1953 to 2018, and has maintained that growth for 44 consecutive years since 1975.
Peng Qinghua, Secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC, says the region will continue to boost high-quality economic development and improve people's livelihoods through poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.
He also said more efforts and funding will be given to scientific and technological development to help boost innovation. HOU NA, CGTN, BEIJING.
