Tillerson is just the latest departure from President Trump's administration. Now let's take a quick look at some of the prominent officials who've been fired or resigned.
Many people have left the Trump administration since January 2017, either by choice or force. Less than 10 days after Trump was sworn in, he fired acting attorney general Sally Yates after she publicly opposed his travel ban on people from seven majority-Muslim countries.
Soon after that, national security adviser Michael Flynn was forced to resign amid allegations he had lied about communications with the Russian ambassador.
Then, in May, Trump fired FBI Director James B. Comey, apparently over the way he was conducting the Russia investigation.
Another prominent figure removed from his office was chief strategist Steve Bannon who was fired on August 18.
Trump's communication directors have been short-lived. His administration's first communications director, Mike Dubke, lasted just a few months on the job. Anthony Scaramucci, his replacement, survived just 10 days. The job was later given to Trump's longtime aide Hope Hicks. She resigned in February after around 200 days in office, lasting far longer than any of her predecessors.
Last week Gary Cohn, the director of the national economic council, also resigned, reportedly due to opposing Trump's plan for tariffs on steel and aluminium.
