The 2018 APEC Economic Policy report highlights the importance of infrastructure for economic growth and social inclusion. China has assisted in many infrastructure projects across Papua New Guinea and other Pacific island countries, which have benefited the local people. CGTN's Liu Yang explains.

Independence Boulevard, high-end supermarkets, the International Convention Center and more all were made possible thanks to China's commitment to the region.
KARL LEE, GENERAL MANAGER INT'L DIVISION, CHINA RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION GROUP "Now a Chinese worker can lead 10 local workers. We have trained a large number of skilled worker here, later we will consider them for management jobs, and they can do a lot of technical work."
China's railway construction, PNG's highest-end comprehensive office building and its largest shopping center, were all built with the support of the local economy. Many of the projects were constructed by China Harbor Engineering Company.

The project is supported by local government, it also provides employment opportunities for local people."
According to a 2018 APEC economic report, economies will collectively need to spend 1.75 trillion U.S. dollars per year from 2020-2025, to reach their targeted goals. Those figures are set to rise to more than two trillion per year from 2030 to 2035. The biggest needs are estimated to be within the transport, energy, and telecommunications sectors.
