Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed on Saturday to step up efforts to bring stability to war-ravaged Afghanistan.

We believe that regional conflicts must be resolved through diplomacy and political solutions. Both sides attach great importance to combating extremism and terrorism."

Saturday was the final day of Rouhani's three-day visit to India. India and Iran have signed agreements including Tehran leasing to New Delhi operational control of part of the Iranian east coast port of Chabahar for 18 months. The 85-million-dollar project, will create a transit route between India, Iran and Afghanistan, bypassing Pakistan. Other deals include a taxation treaty, an extradition agreement, and cooperation in the farm sector.
