If we can have rubbish bins on land, why not having them in the ocean? The idea comes from two Australian young men who spent ten years creating a "Seabin". It's a device made of a large fiber net and a dock-based pump that collects floating debris such as plastic and oil. An estimated eight million tonnes of plastic waste end up in the world's oceans each year, becoming a major killer of marine life. The creators estimate each seabin can remove about half a ton of debris per year, so millions of them would be needed to make any real difference. They say the device doesn't suck in fish.
