Beijing's first bituminous road paved with recycled construction wastes is now ready for traffic.
Located in Sunhe Town in Beijing's Chaoyang District, the road was paved using materials recycled from construction wastes, including bricks and tiles. It has just completed its trial run and is ready to come into service.
"We have testing reports from authoritative institutions for laboratory experiment, construction and acceptance check of the road, which is proved to have great quality and meet the national quality standards," said Wang Qimin, who is leading the resource recycling project under the Beijing Construction Engineering Group.
The group recycled the construction wastes at the site of a rebuilt area in the town and converted 90 percent of the wastes into reusable materials for the road.
"Compared with using new road materials, using building wastes can cut the cost by 20 percent," Wang said. "As China is adopting stricter measures to control pollution and protect the environment, the cost of exploiting materials from natural resources keeps rising, so we turned to the building wastes. That helps solve the problems of wastes disposal and reduction."
The recycling equipment can be transferred and used at other construction sites.
