Israel has confirmed it bombed a suspected nuclear reactor in eastern Syria more than ten years ago. It's Israel's first such public acknowledgement of the 2007 incident which saw the destruction of the partially-built Al-Kubar facility near Deir al-Zor. The strike was said to have been launched after Israel received intelligence indicating what it called a "substantial threat to it and the region". Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said the operation served as a message to his country's enemies. And that it would not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weaponry.
