Amputee driver caught speeding on highway in C. China

A man caught speeding on expressway in central China's Hubei Province turned out to be almost armless.

Police stopped a BMW car speeding at 155 kilometers per hour, 93 percent faster than the speed limit. But what the police found out when the car door opened was much more shocking as the man behind the wheels is an amputee, with both arms gone.

The man actually got his driving license back in 1987, but was not able to renew it since he lost his arms in an accident in 1996.

He is punished with 2,700 yuan (about 402 US dollars) for driving without license, over-speeding and driving without a car plate.

He should have been detained for five days, but got exempted due to his physical condition.

The man was aware of the danger his behavior could cause, and vowed not to drive anymore.

According to reports, China lifted the ban for disabled driving in 2003, and has gradually loosened regulations since then. Now, people with paralyzed upper limbs, lower limbs, hearing impairments, or with visual impairment in one eye are eligible to drive.

Figures from the Ministry of Public Security showed that about 74,000 disabled people have driver's license.
