Some of Hans Christian Andersen's most popular fairy tales have been reinterpreted for a new show. "Life's a Fairytale" debuted at Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts this week. It's a joyful feast for family members of all ages to enjoy. Sun Wei takes us for a look.
Led by Danish director Steen Koerner, a dozen dancers and acrobats showcase their talents.
The show's characterized by bold visual and stage effects, as well as top grade soundtracks.
This meticulously-designed physical form creates a stunning three-dimensional lighting sculpture. It presents a fantasy world that also remains true to nature.
Multiple projectors cover the stage, and animations are projected on the front and rear of the space from beginning to end.
Animation is just one of a wide variety of elements embodied in this show. Others include theatre, dance, acrobatics, and video. These are also supplemented by narration and the singers' melodies.
The six Andersen tales selected - The Nightingale, The Unwise Hans, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Princess and the Pea, the Little Matchstick Girl and the Ugly Duckling, are familiar to one and all.
The show's been especially tailored for a Chinese audience, to include local folk music and an imperial scene. The well-known actor Wang Luoyong dubbed the narration.
Tickets were sold out weeks before the show hit the stage.
Part of the Children's Drama Festival 2018, Life's A Fairytale is scheduled for five shows in four days this week, and closes on Sunday.
