US officials said Tuesday that Vice President Mike Pence was scheduled to meet with DPRK officials while in South Korea for the Winter Olympics, but Pyongyang canceled the meeting at the last minute.
Pence was set to meet the DPRK leader's sister, Kim Yo Jong, and the country's top legislator, Kim Yong Nam, but the February 10th meeting was called off a mere two hours before it was due to start.
Pence's chief of staff, Nick Ayers suggested in a statement that the DPRK backed out after Pence condemned its human rights abuses and announced plans for new economic sanctions.
