President Xi Jinping on Friday instructed China's armed forces to improve their combat capabilities and readiness.
Xi made the remarks while inspecting the Central Military Commission joint battle command center in Beijing in his capacity as commander-in-chief.
"The CMC should lead the armed forces to be ready to fight and win wars and to undertake the missions and tasks of the new era entrusted to them by the Party and the people," Xi said.
Xi also encouraged troops at the People's Liberation Army (PLA) support base in Djibouti to help promote international and regional peace and stability.
