To South Africa now, where an exhibition featuring a variety of artists is being showcased in downtown Johannesburg at the Bank Factory Artists Studio. The exposition brings together works by both emerging and established artists. It hopes to provide an opportunity for visual artistic creativity. CGTN's Yolisa Njamela has more.
The Bank Factory Artists Studio is a home of innovative visual art. It's known as one of the leading visual arts facilities in Johannesburg. Providing diverse and vibrant space for visual artistic creativity. It features a range of artists.
CANDICE ALLISON DIRECTOR, BUS FACTORY ARTIST STUDIO "Our studio's caters for artists who are established artists who've been working in the industry for a number of years and then we have our mid-career artists and then early emerging artists and those artists we try to provide subsidized studio space, mentorship, developments."
This space was created in order to allow artists to be nurtured, to share in the diversity of cultures and create works in a freely accessible environment.
SIBONGILE MUSUNDWA ART ENTHUSIAST "I've been coming to the bank factory for probably a few years now and I've supported some of the artists like I've got a few of their pieces in my home and anytime there's an opportunity to kind of come along and see what's new from some of the new artists, some of the new residents and even some of the artists that I've supported in the past is something I want to do."
This particular exhibition being showcased by the studio intends to illustrate a diverse emerging group of artists. They gain invaluable experience from the art gurus here.
CHARLOTTE MIDDLESTONE EXHIBITOR "Technique is very important to ensure that you're using the material correctly. You need to be passionate about what you're doing. l think that really comes across your artwork, you need to persevere."
All the works here are by African artists.
YOLISA NJAMELA JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA "Art galleries here in South Africa are still very specific and staid about what they want to do on the walls of their galleries. As a result, spaces such as these are proving to be quite critical for especially emerging young artists. Yolisa Njamela, CGTN, Johannesburg, South Africa."
