After bidding adieu to 2016, China's focus is now on the year ahead. With this in mind, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has outlined the core missions of the country's foreign policy in 2017.
"Under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, we will maintain our composure amid global complexity in order to seize opportunities in a rapidly changing environment and to continue to open up a brand new dimension of our major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics,” said Wang in a TV interview.
He went on to outline key missions. The first is to spare no effort in forging a favorable international environment for the 19th CPC National Congress.

He added that China will make thorough preparations for the success of the "Belt and Road" Forum for International Cooperation and the Ninth BRICS Summit.
Wang noted that China will maintain its strategic stability to develop China-US relations towards a future of broader cooperation and more stable major-power relationship, as well as expand its friendly relations with various countries around the world.
He also said the country will continue to provide firm support to Chinese nationals overseas, and better help its development, reform and opening-up.
China's diplomacy will continue to strive for more achievements in the new journey ahead, Wang stated, to make new contributions to the great rejuvenation of the nation and the realization of the Chinese Dream.
