One of the biggest and most star-studded film festivals in Asia, the Shanghai International Film Festival, is scheduled to open on June 16th. Thursday at a press conference in Beijing, the festival has announced the jury members of this year's Golden Goblet Award and the nominations list. Shen Li reports.
Chinese actor-director Jiang Wen will preside over the main competition jury at the upcoming SIFF. Other jury members include Taiwan actor Chang Chen, Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi, Turkish director-producer Semih Kaplanoglu, Japanese director Naomi Kawase, American producer David Permut, and Chinese actress Qing Hailu. Together they will hand out the prestigious Golden Goblet Award at the closing ceremony on June 24th. Apart from an international line-up of jury panel, the SIFF is also seeking cooperation with established film events overseas.
FU WENXIA, EXECUTIVE DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL, SIFF "We're working more closely than ever with major film festivals around the world. For example, at this year's Cannes Film Festival, the Marché du Film opening night was co-hosted by the SIFF. It marks the first cooperation between the two major film festivals. We had a friendly conversation with Cannes Festival's President Pierre Lescure and discussed future cooperation."
More than 500 films are to be screened during the nine-day event, including restored 4K versions of Hitchcock classics. Since it was initiated in 1993, the SIFF has been an A-category international film festival and one of the largest film festivals in East Asia. The 21st edition runs from June 16th to 24th. SL, CGTN.
