The Seventh Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which was concluded on Saturday in Beijing, endorsed the decisions made by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee to expel Sun Zhengcai and 11 other members, strengthening the Party’s effort in anti-corruption campaign.
A communique was also issued after the four-day plenum, laying a solid foundation for the upcoming 19th CPC National Congress.
Preparing for the 19th CPC National Congress
The plenum decided that the 19th CPC National Congress will be convened from October 18 in Beijing, according to the communique.
Entrusted by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, delivered a work report, which was discussed at the plenum.
An amendment to the Constitution of the CPC was passed at the Seventh Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee. It also discussed and approved a report to be made by the 18th CPC Central Committee to the 19th Party Congress and a report by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, the country's top anti-graft watchdog.
All three documents will be submitted to the upcoming Party Congress which will begin on next Wednesday for examination, the plenum decided.
Fight against corruption
China has gained and consolidated a crushing momentum in its fight against corruption, according to a communique released Saturday.
At the session, the plenum endorsed the decisions made by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee to expel former Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee Sun Zhengcai, Huang Xingguo and ten others from the CPC.

The plenum also decided to place Li Liguo and Yang Huanning on probation within the Party, while Zhang Xiwu was removed from the post in the Party.
Senior officials should stay loyal to the Party and willingly safeguard the authority of the Party's central leadership and the unity of the Party, according to the communique.
The plenum also promoted Cui Bo, Shu Xiaoqin, Ma Shunqing, Wang Jianjun and seven other alternate members of the 18th CPC Central Committee to full members.
‘Extraordinary’ five years
The plenary session summarized the work of the past five years since the 18th CPC National Congress and held that the five years was an "extraordinary" period.
The plenum fully affirmed the work of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee since the Sixth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee.
"China has witnessed deep and fundamental changes over the past five years, while its achievements are comprehensive and groundbreaking,” according to a communique released Saturday.
The meeting reached consensus that the Political Bureau has held high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics and thoroughly implemented the spirits of the 18th Party Congress and its third, fourth, fifth and sixth plenums.

The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee has been guided by Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the important thought of "Three Represents" and the Scientific Outlook on Development, and thoroughly carry out the essence of Xi's series of important remarks and the new governance concepts, thoughts and strategies of the CPC Central Committee.
The Political Bureau has comprehensively pushed forward the socialist economic, political, cultural, social and  ecological civilization construction and deepened military reform, with various causes achieving remarkable results and maintaining a stable and relatively fast economic development as well as social harmony and stability, which has created sound conditions for the 19th CPC National Congress.
It also affirmed the work relating to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan has been further enhanced and diplomatic work has scored new achievements.
A total of 191 members and 141 alternate members of the CPC Central Committee attended the meeting, with members of the CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and leading officials of related departments present as non-voting members.
