The Cricket World Cup begins on Thursday in England and when Chris Morris wasn't initially named in South Africa's World Cup squad, he truly believed that his chance of representing his country at the global showpiece was gone. However, the all-rounder got a call up and is now set for the opening match against hosts England. CGTN's Sias du Plessis has more.
Chris Morris has been described as an X-factor player by cricket commentators and journalists throughout his career, exceptional on his day, but not as consistent as he would like, even by his own admission, the talented fast bowler who is also a big hitter, says he isn't the only X factor player in the squad.
CHRIS MORRIS SOUTH AFRICA ALL-ROUNDER "If I am at my best, the X factor will come out, it is quite a couple of exciting weeks ahead of us as cricketers to shown what our x factors are and I personally think every single cricketer in our team is an x factor cricketer."
South Africa aren't favourites for the tournament, that label belongs to India and England, but for the Titans stalwart, it isn't necessarily a bad thing and possibly a blessing in disguise.
CHRIS MORRIS SOUTH AFRICA ALL-ROUNDER "Flying under the radar is always a dangerous thing for a team and you know we are the wounded buffalos I reckon and that is when we are at our most dangerous so it quite nice, it is quite refreshing and we just crack on and enjoy our team enjoy the experience and do the business."
Morris knows there is psychological damage from the previous World Cup tournaments, but believes that it isn't a factor with a motivated group of cricketers.
CHRIS MORRIS SOUTH AFRICA ALL-ROUNDER "It is quite humbling hopefully to hopefully be part of the one and only team, first of all to get to a final and second of all to win a World Cup will be phenomenal feeling, at the moment it is an absolute dream, but like I said to get to that dream we've got a couple steps ahead of us we need to get through."
SIAS DU PLESSIS PRETORIA "At 32 Chris Morris is at the peak of his powers, he knows he will head into his first and possibly last World Cup with a massive opportunity to not only prove his critics wrong but also showcase his arrange of skills with bat and ball and in so doing have a hand in potentially rewriting the history books by delivering a trophy South Africa have never won, Sias du Plessis, CGTN, Pretoria."
