The China Dancers' Association and the National Center for the Performing Arts have jointly organized a showcase of works created by young Chinese dancers and choreographers.
"Twelve Days of Chinese Dance" is set to be a feast for dance lovers in the Chinese capital. Six works have been chosen for the twelve-day-long showcase at the National Center for the Performing Arts. There is a piece adapted from the Chinese literary classic "Journey to the West", and another one based on the story of the Kunqu opera "Peony Pavilion". There are also thought-provoking works like the one delving into the complexity of living circumstances, and pieces concerning elderly people, and relationships between people and their jobs. Rounding up the list is "The Sea in the Distance", a piece telling the story of a woman, the sea, and love. It is a work sponsored by the National Youth Dance Development plan, and has won many awards.
ZHAO RUHENG, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF DANCE DEPT.  NATIONAL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS "These works will be tested on the stage, to see if they can really touch the audience. And to see if these small-scale pieces can be developed into large works."
Unlike other dance contests, "Twelve Days of Chinese Dance" gets the tutors involved in the process. These tutors who are influential figures in the country's dance field, will give suggestions for the works and help the creative team to perfect the pieces.
LUO BIN CHINA DANCERS' ASSOCIATION "Veteran artists who are mature in terms of the art genre, will give advice to these young dancers and choreographers who are not mature in the art of dance. This will be very helpful to them."
Since it was initiated in 2012, "Twelve Days of Chinese Dance" has become a platform to help nurture and showcase quality works by young Chinese dance professionals.
FENG SHUANGBAI, DIRECTOR CHINA DANCERS' ASSOCIATION "Many dancers have their own opinions and feelings towards life and the art. The motive of this event is to encourage them to express themselves freely. That is why the event was born."
"Twelve Days of Chinese Dance" will be showcased from July the 14th to August the first at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
