‍Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Zimbabwean counterpart Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday agreed to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between the two countries.
The two heads of state reached the consensus during their talks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Mnangagwa is currently on a state visit to China from Monday to Friday. China is the first country outside of Africa that the Zimbabwean president has visited since assuming office last November.
President Xi said China and Zimbabwe have enjoyed close relations, and the two sides have treated each other equally with mutual respect and maintained political mutual trust. The two sides have deepened cooperation in trade and economy, and people-to-people exchanges.
“China-Zimbabwe ties have witnessed new opportunities in the new era, we are willing to map out a new blueprint for the development of China-Zimbabwe ties and strengthen cooperation in various fields, so as to bring more benefits to our two peoples,” President Xi added.
Mnangagwa said that “We are grateful to the warm reception and hospitality Chinese government extended to me and my delegation since we arrived in Beijing. The government of Zimbabwe and me personally appreciated the support and good will from the Chinese government following the peaceful political transition in Zimbabwe.”
Mnangagwa also highly praised China’s vision and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
