An elaborately decorated worship boat made its debut in Xiamen, southeast China's Fujian Province on Friday. The boat displays local traditional fishing culture.
It took six months to build this vessel, using traditional methods. The process involved people who were skilled in architecture and painting. In ancient times, people built and burned worship boats to pray for blessings and exorcise evil spirits.
"We hope to give the fishermen or people with such skills a venue to show their skills. Inheritance is very important and we expect to tell the future generation that our ancestors used to master a large number of skills which serve very practical purposes,” said Huang Xiyuan, director with a folk culture inheritance center.
During the BRICS Summit, the boat will be displayed in Xiamen harbor as a symbol of local culture.
