We begin here in Beijing, where the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the trade talks and consensus between China and the US have served the interests of both sides. The ministry added that the biggest outcome this time is that both countries have realized economic and trade issues can be resolved through negotiations.
The remarks come after the world's two largest economies issued a joint statement on Saturday. Both countries have agreed to stop slapping tariffs on each other. The two countries will work to decrease the US deficit in goods with China. And they also emphasized the importance of improving intellectual property protection for high-tech products. Both sides pledged to maintain high-level trade talks, and US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross will visit China in the near future.
LU KANG CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESPERSON  "Just as Vice Premier Liu He said, the biggest outcome and consensus reached by both sides during this round of consultation, was both sides realizing that the issues facing China-US trade must be resolved through negotiations, in order to avoid the mutual tariffs imposed against each other. As we said earlier, we wish the mutually beneficial factor can better serve its role in China-US business and trade relations."
