This year marks the 60 anniversary of the birth of Chinese TV drama. During the Shanghai TV festival, an activity will take place to mark the occasion. Let's take a look back at domestic dramas over the past 60 years.
From "Aspirations" to "A Native of Beijing in New York" and to "The First Half of My Life". Over the past 60 year, Chinese TV dramas have always been a reflection of the era.
Tales of ordinary people's daily life showed social change and a profound imprint of the times.
Among them, "Aspirations" or "Kewang" in Chinese is called the "milestone of the development of Chinese TV dramas". As China's first large-scale indoor TV series, the 1990 production had viewers riveted.
Since then, creators of Chinese TV dramas have focused on the life and feelings of ordinary people.
"A Native of Beijing in New York" reflects and explains the culture behind the craze to go abroad.
"Stories of An Editorial Board" used the micro-society of an editorial board as the narrative background and showed different aspects of lives.  It set a precedent in Chinese TV comedy.
"I Love My Family" emphasized the warmth of the family with a series of highly allegorical sketches.
History and military themed stories are another popular genre.
In recent years, it's the hero's path to growth. The dramas no longer depict the stereotypical handsome man with the right stuff.  Instead, more and more dramas create a hero that audiences can understand and relate to. This coincides with the spirit of the times.
