The PyeongChang Winter Paralympics came to an end on last Sunday and China's delegation arrived home from South Korea on Monday where they were given a warm welcome at the Beijing airport.
Besides staff from the China Disabled Person's Federation, fans who love ice and snow sports came out to greet the athletes with many waiting for over two hours as the plane was delayed. This was the fifth Winter Paralympics that China has competed in, and their most successful as the wheelchair curling team won gold for the nation's first medal ever at the Winter Games.
"I feel quite excited. I really value this gold medal a lot. They got it thanks to the team leaders and the people who support us. It marks the beginning of our wheelchair curling careers and we should continue our efforts to perform well at the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics,” China wheelchair curling team coach Yue Qingshuang said.
26 athletes took part and showed how much China's Paralympians have improved in winter sports. The athletes will now get some much deserved time off before turning their attentions to the 2022 Winter Paralympics in Beijing.
"People have showed great enthusiasm towards us and I would like to thank them for the support and for the support shown to all Winter Paralympic events, aside from wheelchair curling. Though we won gold, the moment has passed and a new training period has begun. We will have a rest first and then start to train hard, in order to get better results at the Beijing games," China wheelchair curler Wang Haitao said.
