The People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison opened its barracks to the public to mark the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China.
The garrison opens to the public every year, but this year's event is even more special, as the magnificent Liaoning aircraft carrier is present. Along with it are two destroyers and one frigate, which are docked at the barracks.
Those lucky enough to get tickets said they were excited to be there, and were proud of the Chinese military's advances over the past few years.
As CGTN’s Li Jiejun reports, the open day began with a solemn flag-raising ceremony at the barracks of the PLA's Hong Kong Garrison on Stonecutters Island.
The barracks' open day has become very popular in recent years. It has been opened 29 times over the years, drawing in nearly 700,000 visitors.
With the PLA keeping a rather low profile in Hong Kong, these open days are seen as an opportunity for the public to better understand them.
2017 marks the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return, as well as the stationing of the PLA in Hong Kong.
