One year after NetEase Comics and Marvel announced that they would co-develop new superheroes; the first issue of their two co-authored comics has finally been released. The first ever Chinese superheroes Aero and Lin Lie have also officially ENTERED the Marvel universe.
The two comics, "Warriors of Three Sovereigns" (三皇斗战士 in Chinese) and "Cyclone" (气旋 in Chinese), are based on Marvel's concepts and Chinese mythology and culture.
"Warriors of Three Sovereigns" tells the story of an 18-year old college student named Lin Lie, who picks up an ancient sword to fight against Chiyou (蚩尤), a tyrant roughly dating back to over 2,500 years ago. While "Warriors of Three Sovereigns" is related to China's ancient legends, "Cyclone" is about a talented female architect named Aero, who can control air currents, protecting an eastern city after a resettlement project goes all wrong.
Co-authored by Marvel and NetEase Comics, one of China's biggest online comic platforms, the creations are a clear push by Marvel to attract more fans in China. Some even hope the Chinese superheroes feature alongside other Marvel heroes like Hulk and Iron Man.
The comics are only available in Chinese and on NetEase Comics, which already hosts other Marvel comics including Captain America and Spiderman. CGTN.
