A fishing boat from the Chinese mainland was seized by Taiwan's coast guard for allegedly fishing “in limited waters” on Saturday night, three days after a fishing ban period ended, Taiwan media reported.
The boat, called "Minlongyu," was caught fishing in "limited waters" off the Pengjia Islet at around 11:30 p.m., Taiwan’s coast guard authority said.
The annual fishing ban in the region extends between May 1 and August 16.
Eleven crew members were aboard the ship.
The captain could be fined between 1.2 million and 2.4 million new Taiwan dollars (39,500 - 79,200 US dollars).
