The National Theatre of China's latest offering, "The Prince of Lanling," premièred this Tuesday in Beijing.
Based on stories of the legendary hero, the Prince of Lanling, who lived in troubled times over 1,400 years ago, the play featured traditional Chinese elements as well as modern stage effects.

Performances of Nuo drama, a type of folk opera popular in southern China, have been woven into the stage play. Actors in special masks and unique dresses add mysterious touches to the scenes.
The traditional drama structure is broken by replacing realistic stage settings with symbolic ones. Folk and modern music instruments combine to achieve original sound effects.
