Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday sent a message of condolence to Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma following Monday's mudslide disaster.

The side of a hill collapsed following heavy rain, killing more than 300 people near the capital Freetown and leaving more than 2,000 others homeless.

Earlier on Thursday, the Chinese government sent 1 million US dollars in aid to the west African country to help with disaster relief.
