One sub-forum today focused exclusively on the economic relationship between China and India. Speakers from both sides agreed that the countries need to start seeing each other as an opportunity, rather than a threat.
CHEN DEMING FORMER CHINESE MINISTER OF COMMERCE "Let me bring up a few figures. China and India accounts for 35 percent of the world's population, and at least 20 percent of the world's economy, but trade volume between the two accounts for just 0.5 percent of world's total. This is a big disadvantage and where there's scope for both leaders to talk and improve. China and India share similar views regarding the global economy and politics. At the UN, at the WTO, both countries share so many of the same points of view, including on energy, climate change and food security."
