Earlier, CGTN interviewed Brian Becker, the executive director of the anti-war and social justice organization, the Answer Coalition. Becker says the DPRK wants to show it's a good faith negotiator, but there are still headwinds on the US side.
BRIAN BECKER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, THE ANSWER COALITION "I think the DPRK, if you look back the past 25 years, whenever there's a good faith effort, or perception of a good faith effort by the United States, North Korea has reciprocated. So it's a tic for tac. Will they reciprocate when the US makes next move? I think we are on the road. It's a step by step diplomatic process."
SUSAN ROBERTS "So you are talking about steps. Are we moving in the right direction? Is Kim Jong Un making the right steps in order to please President Trump in light of the summit?"
BRIAN BECKER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, THE ANSWER COALITION "I don't know whether he's trying to please President Trump, but he's trying to show that the DPRK is a good faith negotiator. Right now, Donald Trump has a lot of headwinds because there's big part of the military industrial complex in America who don't want a peace treaty with the DPRK, don't want normalizations. So Donald Trump if he wants to go forward, he's gonna meet a lot of headwinds. The DPRK is trying to say to Donald Trump, look, we are willing to negotiate."
