The excitement continues to build ahead of the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Expo. Event organizers say it wasn't easy coordinating the logistics for 110 participating countries and organizations. And some prep work still remains. CGTN's Wei Lynn Tang has more from the venue.
With less than two weeks until opening day, preparations for the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition are in their final sprint.
The expo coordination bureau says they've gotten great feedback from the 30-thousand plus who attended the trial opening this past weekend.
Most of the major setup is complete.
But, some minor adjustments still have to be made.
DONG HUI, DIRECTOR GENERAL PLANNING DEPARTMENT, BEIJING INTL. HORTICULTURAL EXPO "What needs to be fine-tuned are the service measures surrounding the expo. We may add temporary washrooms and supplement signboards, including directions with more concise information. These adjustments will be made based on tourists' experiences. The overall structure of the expo will not change."
The bureau points out another challenge: the colder climate in Yanqing District.
Plants from warm, balmy areas require special protection and feeding of nutrients after they are shipped to the expo site.
GUO JIA, DEPUTY DIRECTOR HORTICULTURE DEPARTMENT, BEIJING INTL. HORTICULTURAL EXPO "China now has advanced gardening measures. For example, water and fertilizer control, whether automated or manual, we have solutions to cater to the maintenance of these plants. The crucial adjustment period is during the opening ceremony when the temperature here is still somewhat cool."
Meanwhile, on the international pavilion, the bureau says hard fitting work is complete and that exhibitors will bring in their products closer to opening day.
JIAO YUTONG, DIRECTOR INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPANTS DEPARTMENT, BEIJING INTL. HORTICULTURAL EXPO "Timing is tight. There are some international exhibitors from abroad who have entered late. But like us, they are now working around the clock to ensure their exhibitions can be perfectly presented before the opening. There shouldn't be a problem."
WEI LYNN TANG BEIJING "The expo committee says a second and bigger trial run will be held on April 20th. 100-thousand people are expected to help test the waters as tourists. Meanwhile here at the 5-million square meter venue, workers are toiling away - but with smiles on their faces - to ensure that the expo will be at its best to welcome millions of guests on April 29th.
