In a closely-watched keynote speech given by Xi Jinping at the annual Boao Forum on Tuesday, the Chinese president emphasized China's opening up, and gave a nod to intellectual property rights – the subject of US president Trump's "Section 301" investigation and the cited reason for the US tariff threats on Chinese products.
Calling for the strengthening of intellectual property rights, Xi outlined ways China is stepping up the regulation and protection of intellectual property rights, while also urging foreign governments to do the same.
With the renewed emphasis on intellectual property, Liu Baocheng, a professor at the University of International Business, talked to CGTN about the unique context these rights have had in China and ways to achieve the goals Xi outlined in Tuesday's speech.
