The death toll has risen to four after two missing people were confirmed killed in an explosion in Ningbo, east China’s Zhejiang Province on Sunday, police said on Wednesday.
According to police, the explosion occurred while workers were dismantling some illegal explosives and the epicenter of the blast was at a septic tank.
The alleged owner of the explosives, identified by police as a 33-year-old man from east China’s Anhui Province, was arrested in the central Hunan Province on Monday night.
He had been charged with illegally making, selling and buying explosives in October, according to police in north China’s Liaoning Province.
After his arrest this week, the suspect said he told his family members in Ningbo to dismantle and destroy the explosives to avoid being punished, police sources said.
However, they ruled out the possibility of deliberate sabotage causing the explosion.
