Japan's Defense Minister Tomomi Inada decided to resign, reported Japanese broadcaster NHK. Inada will send her resignation letter to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday, according to the report.
The news comes after a series of missteps and a suspected cover up that critics say contributed to a plunge in Abe's support.
Inada had already been expected to be replaced in a cabinet reshuffle plan next month.
