It's been a rough start to a new year for Beijing and parts of northern China, as smog has smothered cities for more than a week now. China has introduced stringent measures to combat its air pollution, which has been a headache for officials, as well as the public.
While authorities have introduced significant measures, including a reduction in coal consumption -- coal is said to be the primary contributor of pollution in China -- and the odd-even rule for vehicles to reduce vehicular emission, they have also turned to technology.
There have been trucks armed with mist cannons, a smog-sucking machine, and even a smog-killing drone.
But as heavy smog chokes China, the question is -- do these technological marvels really help the country's "war against pollution" or are they only a temporary fix?
