Making their way out of Pyeongchang before the closing ceremony are the small, yet significant, DPRK contingent. Skiers Kim Jong Hyon and Ma Yu Chol competed in the men's 15 kilometer sit, finishing last but the inclusion at the Games is being seen as another step towards easing tensions between the two countries following their joint participation at last month's Olympics.
According to reports, the pair only began their skiing career three months ago. Ma and Kim came in 26th and 27th respectively, propping up the race, but received loud cheers as they approached the finish and were greeted with waves of the unification flag from fans. The entire delegation, which included a further 22 officials and coaches, exchanged greetings with South Korean President Moon Jae-in where they thanked him for the hospitality.
