An exhibition focusing on female artists has concluded at Beijing's Enjoy-Art Museum. "Excavation" features the work of six artists from China, Ireland and South Korea. It is also part of the Dublin/Beijing Twinning Program.
Their artworks, across a range of media, excavate both personal and collective history and does so from diverse perspectives.
"From curator to artists, all participants in this exhibition are female. We want to show more about the women's perspective in looking at the world and their lives," said Jia Jingjing, curator of the exhibition.

All six artists share a drive to uncover, expose and excavate meaning from their own creative histories. The diverse artworks shed light on formative influences in their respective cultures.
"The theme is called excavation, so everyone is exploring their own meaning and purpose in their art practice," said Nianh Cunningham, an Irish artist who lives in Beijing.
Gulistan, a Chinese artist said her work is an exploration of memories and occurrences which have had profound personal effects.

"The theme of my works is memory. I want to show my memories in the light. I don't want to simply show the people and events in my memory but also to capture the length and temperature of the memories," she said. The Dublin/Beijing Twinning Program connects and celebrates Dublin and Beijing as centers of commerce and culture.
"Art doesn't have borders, especially contemporary art. These kinds of events are good opportunities for the world to understand Chinese culture better," said Wang Feiyue, curator of Enjoy-Art Museum.
Organizers say they hope the exhibition can give audiences a unique insight and help raise the self-awareness of women and the understanding among different cultures.
