At least four toddlers have been killed in southeastern Brazil after a security guard at a day care center threw alcohol over children and set them on fire, an official said.
The incident happened early Thursday morning at the Innocent Children's People Municipal Education Center, which cares for around 70 children in Janauba, Minas Gerias.
Around 50 other children and their teachers were injured, with 15 victims in life-threatening condition, local media has reported.
The suspect has been identified as 50-year-old Damiao Soares dos Santos who had been working as night watchman at the center since 2008.
He was hospitalized and later died after setting himself on fire as well.
Brazilian President Michel Temer expressed his condolences, saying, "I am deeply saddened by the tragedy with the kids in Janauba and I want to express my solidarity with the families."
Dos Santos' motive remains unclear.
