A waste management facility caught fire on Saturday morning in Qingyuan, south China's Guangdong Province, killing nine and injuring one.
The fire has since been extinguished and the one wounded has been sent to a local hospital, whose injury is reportedly not life-threatening.
According to an investigation report released by local authorities in Qingyuan, the fire broke out due to dud fireworks.
A group of cleaners collected the residue of firecrackers set off by local residents and took the waste to a garbage collection point, then the fireworks that had not gone off exploded.
Most of the victims are cleaners living at the waste management facility and their family members.
