Frauke Petry steps down after AfD's landmark surge in election

Frauke Petry, leader of Germany's far-right party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) announced Tuesday that she would resign from her party, two days after the party being elected into the federal parliament for the first time.
"It is clear that this step will take place," she said on Tuesday in Dresden, but without mentioning a precise date, according to the Deutsch Press Agency (DPA).
