Mary is a 21-year-old American who came to Beijing in August to fulfill her dream of looking after abandoned children. Working as a volunteer at a local childcare organization, Mary now offers medical care and post-surgery support services for orphans. /Photo from bj.jjj.qq.com
Mary got the chance to work in Beijing by accident while she was browsing job opportunities online and found a project called "Dew Drops Little Flower". Touched by photos of orphans recovering from diseases, Mary decided to participate in this project and become a volunteer in China. /Photo from bj.jjj.qq.com
With no knowledge of Mandarin, Mary still finds joy and ease in using body language to communicate with her Chinese colleagues. However, to conquer the language barrier and offer better services to kids, Mary is also learning Chinese in her spare time. /Photo from bj.jjj.qq.com
As China has a large population, the number of orphans is also likely to be high too, Mary told local media. With the help of Mary and other volunteers, "Dew Drops Little Flower" has taken care of over 100 orphans and offers effective support to poor families. /Photo from bj.jjj.qq.com
